The beautiful century route goes North to Leadville, along the scenic rolling hills of Turquoise Lake Road, around the Mineral Belt Trail passing aspen groves and conifer forests, meandering through the historic Leadville Mining District, and back to Buena Vista in the shadows of Colorado’s highest mountain peaks. Nearly all of the climbing is completed over the first 60 miles of the ride, with the last 40 miles essentially downhill to flat! Riders also have options to take shorter routes including a 35 miler, a 50 miler, and a “metric century” (62 miles) while still enjoying the Collegiate Peaks’ magnificent scenery.
2009 Denver Post “Ride The Rockies”-June 14-June 19, 2009
The Denver Post Ride The Rockies is an annual bicycle tour that takes 2,000 cyclists on a 6-7 day ride on paved roads through Colorado’s Rocky Mountains each June, assisted by more than 100 volunteers. In its 24th year RTR patrons will be treated to a six day, 380-mile loop, ascending three of Colorado’s most scenic mountain passes; one of which is McClure Pass, a brand new addition to our bicycle tour. Cyclists will also traverse the North Rim of the Black Canyon offering panoramic views of spectacular vistas and sheer cliffs.
This year’s tour coincides with a number of Colorado’s finest mountain festivals; including Aspen’s Jazz Festival and Food & Wine Classic as well as Glenwood Springs’ Strawberry Days. *Cyclists ride through Buena Vista on Wed. 17 on their way to Leadville from Salida. Bicycle Tour of Colorado- June 21-June 27, 2009
The Bicycle Tour of Colorado is a 7 day fully supported bicycle tour in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. We provide camping services, baggage transportation, route maps, road markings, aid stations every 15-25 miles, bicycle repair services, and medical support during your week in Colorado. For touring the world, and especially the Rocky Mountains, nothing beats riding a bicycle. Travel through wide open valleys with a 360 degree view of the towering mountains. Pedal alongside streams and waterfalls with the wind at your back. Enjoy the challenging climbs and exhilarating descents of the high passes. Meet riders from around the country, and around the world, that all share a passion for bicycling.

CDTA invites you and your family to participate in TrailFest 2009-the premier outdoor event featuring FREE guided Get on the Divide Adventures celebrating the Continental Divide Trail. Hike, bike, or trek with pack llamas and goats in and around Buena Vista, Colo. Basecamp activities also include a scavenger hunt and booths for the kids at McPhelemy Park in downtown Buena Vista.
